I’ve been meaning to share with you some inspirational organizations within the travel and philanthropic world, let me now share with you an interview with the founder and CEO of MudLOVE himself, Luke Wright.
1. Give Us An Introduction
I’m Luke. I’m an ‘artistineer’. Not smart enough to be a full-blown engineer, and too systematic to be a full-blown artist. The blend seems to lend itself well for the work I do at MudLOVE. I have a hand in branding, design, product development, inventing machines that make our products, processes, and much more.
2. What Inspired You to Create MudLOVE?
A ceramics degree, a blank life canvas, and a resistance in my heart to join the ‘system’ or work for ‘the man’. Another question is who inspired MudLOVE to be MudLOVE and not “Luke’s Pottery Shop”. That was God. He said deny yourself and see what happens.
3. What Is The Best Part About Your Job?
Problem solving. Since MudLOVE sloshes around in my brain chemistry, it is really great solving problems at MudLOVE. The feeling of helping others is fun. If problem solving is focused around artistineering type stuff, then I’m in the zone!
4. What Inspirational Quote Would You Live By?
“Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test God’s pleasing and perfect will.” – Paul
5. Do You Love To Travel?
Yes I do! Currently I don’t have one dream destination, but I would love to start exploring mid to large size cities in the US and see what they have to offer. I love cities and people-watching.
6. Do You Consider MudLOVE a Sustainable Business?
I consider MudLOVE a very sustainable business. My team and I are are in a good place when we’re willing to put in hard work. That requires growing pains, honesty, mistakes, and lots of grace and encouragement. We are constantly learning how to be creative and sustainable. It’s a part of the challenge!
7. Finding the Right Cause Is Hard To Do, How Did You Choose to Support Water for Good?
I first met with a former employee of Water for Good to get some business advice. Just like water brings life to our clay, water brings life to people. It ended up being a perfect match! The analogy is crystal clear, and the water crisis needs a lot of people speaking up.
8. What is Your Dream Accomplishment for 2015?
To create the most helpful and dynamic fundraising program for people that are looking to raise money for good causes. Through this, MudLOVE gets to double our impact by giving a portion of the sale to Water for Good, while also helping people accomplish their goals. It’s the next big project on my list and I’m excited to get into it and see how we can make it better. It really fulfills our mission of love!
9. How Can People Get Involved with MudLOVE?
First, you can purchase one of our handmade products. Each one provides 1 week of clean water to someone in the Central African Republic. Then, tell your friends and family about us! Whether you pass out bracelets as party favors, or share a meaningful conversation over coffee in one of our vibrant mugs, we have products for people of all ages and walks of life.
We also love connecting with amazing retailers. If you have a favorite local boutique, café, or brewery, let us know about it!
To make an even bigger impact on the water crisis, visit waterforgood.org and consider making a direct donation to fund their incredible programs. Be sure to check out their newest initiative, the 5 Gallon Challenge, where you can experience what it’s like to collect and carry up to 40 pounds of water.
