Welcome to the Melia Dusseldorf!

1. It’s Unique

It’s not everyday that you get to spend Christmas in a hotel. It’s also not everyday that you want to spend Christmas in a hotel. To be honest, I never thought I’d enjoy it until I arrived here. Perhaps it would be different if I was staying in a run down motel in the middle of no where, but here at the Melia we’re a walk away from all the Christmas spirit, Christmas Markets and shopping centres. It is such a wonderful and unique way to celebrate Christmas, I wouldn’t have picked a better hotel if it was possible.

I’ll get into the little details that have made our Christmas experience that much more unique.

An Opportunity to Celebrate Christmas in a Different Light

We’re used to stockings and oversized trees with an obscene amount of gifts below. Germans celebrate in a different, more family oriented way that brought more Christmas spirit than I had ever expected. We’ve had huge dinners every nights, tried too many German weinnachts sweets and outdone ourselves when it comes to the handful of Christmas Markets that Dusseldorf has to offer. It isn’t about the gifts under the tree here, but the number of guests coming to your house to share memories over pounds of smoked meats and heaps of potatoes.

An Opportunity to Spend Christmas with Internationals

Chances are when you’re staying in a hotel over the holidays, you’re going to be bumping into a lot of other international travellers during your stay. All travellers have a different story and so many people over the holidays are willing to open up and converse over a glass of wine. Who knows, we may be inspired to travel somewhere else in the new year!

2. It’s Beautiful

I am not suggesting you stay in any random hotel over Christmas, but perhaps the Melia Dusseldorf and the photos below will inspire you to pick the right place for you. I couldn’t have found a better hotel if I tried, this place is the perfect spot for the Christmas holidays and is in the heart of the greenest parts of the city. You want to know why?

It’s Luxurious

There are some occasions where I don’t mind staying in a local hostel, but over the holidays it’s such a treat to be able to kick back and relax in a luxurious hotel that has more than you would ever require. I forgot my toothbrush (of course I did) and had room service come to my door with a cute little dental kit, now that’s service!

It’s Comfortable

I bring this up often, if you’ve ever talked to me you’ve probably heard this story before. During September of this year (2014) I stayed in a very luxurious hotel in Luxembourg and paid the full cost for the room (approx. 200 Euro per night). Though every piece of furniture and hotel decor looked too perfect to touch, it’s was just a facade masking the terrible quality of the bed, the minuscule pillows and the paper thin walls. Talk about not judging a book by it’s cover! My time here at the Melia Dusseldorf has been much different. It’s luxurious and gorgeous to the eye, yet offers comfort in every way possible. The softest chairs, warmest king size beg and all the necessities I would ever need only a foot from my bed side.

It’s Delicious

I have officially deemed the Melia Dusseldorf to have the best hotel breakfast ever. I’ve been to hotels, motels, hotels and bed and breakfasts, but nothing compares to the Melia. After I finished breakfast this morning, I was already excited for tomorrow mornings breakfast. I could breathe I had eaten so much, yet the Hof Garten (one of Dusseldorf’s most beautiful green spaces) is conveniently located outside our hotel doors, so a nice walk helped for the perfect start to the day.

It’s Out of the World Creative

How is it out of the world creative? They have a pillow menu here. Yes, you read it right… a pillow menu. Choose from a variety of pillows including foam with aloe vera, memory foam, non allergenic, arven wood, gel and bolster pillows for your perfect nights sleep. They have incredibly unique showers and reading lights in reading lights (literally a bed side lamp with a reading light that stretches out from the lamp).

It’s a Home Away from Home

The most important part for me over the holidays is the have a place which feels like a home away from home. Sometimes too much luxury makes for an unsettling experience but the Melia Dusseldorf is the best of both worlds, luxurious comfort. I can watch English shows (after 8 months of no English) while laying in bed, I can relax in my amazing shower and call for room service at any point in the day. Don’t forget room service offers a Melia Hotel Boutique shop delivered to your door, personalized pillows and a delicious menu of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
