Day 29: The Backpack & the Cape Peninsula Tour

October 3rd, 2012

Another excursions packed day courtesy of The Backpack and The Baz Bus! Since we’ve had some amazing experiences along the way with The Baz Bus, we figured what better way to tour Cape Town than with the best bus ever again?!

Cape Peninsula Tour

On our first official stop on the Cape Peninsula Tour, at Hout Bay we decided to take part in the Seal Island Cruises courtesy of Drum Beat Charters in Hout Bay!

Although it is tourist central and quite overwhelming being pushed left right and centre by tourists with their massive cameras shooting photos like their life depended on it….. (I get very feisty when it comes to these situations), it is DEFINITELY worth a visit if you are taking a cape peninsula tour! Why? Well for starters, the cruise is 65 rand.. For you Canadians, this one hour cruise costs about 7 dollars CDN.

Secondly, these seals are living the life, not caged, in the wild on Seal Island. The water is beautiful and the seals look so happy swimming around the island with hundreds of other seal friends.

We also visited our second South African National Park (first being in Tsitsikamma) called Boulders. Still part of the Baz Bus tour we also had the opportunity to see the African Penguins on False Bay in Simon’s Town. It was a very cute visit and a nice addition to the Baz Bus tour however, if traveling on your own, I wouldn’t say that it is a ‘must see’ in Cape Town, there are too many beautiful stops in Cape Town to travel into Simon’s Town for the day to see the penguins. Although, if you are driving through on your own or with a tour, definitely stop by! Cheap and so cute! 🙂

Last and favorite stop was lunch (Pause: a GREAT lunch prepared by the driver, tour guide and their amazing volunteers – Alicia and I),

Cape of Good Hope (the South-Western most point of Africa) and Cape Point! Somewhere I have always wanted to go! Therefore — Baz Bus Cape Peninsula Tour = AMaZiNnnnnGggg!

Why?

It’s the best tour price in Cape Town – The Baz Bus is the comfiest – The tour guide and bus driver are hilarious – … Not to mention unbelievably informative – Visiting all these stops is something you need to do when coming to South Africa, just to say “I did it!”

We hopped off at Long Street to go out with our new friends – from Australia, New Zealand and Germany – visiting The Spur restaurant yet again! Not the best place but somehow we always end up there!

Once we arrived back to The Backpack our faaaaavorites Sapir and Yoni showed up! 🙂 a couple beers and bed to go… We need to prepare for our Wine Flies Wine Tour!!! SO EXCITED!
