Day 5: Inkosana Lodge and the Longest Zip Line in Africa

Longest Zip Line in Africa

Last full day in Drakensberg and we are truly exhausted! In such a remote area though you wouldn’t believe how much there is to do!

We had a much needed sleep in and then headed out for the day. Edmund, the owner at Inkosana Lodge is such an amazing planner and actually left us with nothing but free time to relax before all of our pre-planned excursions!

Drakensberg Canopy Tours graciously provided Alicia and I the experience of a life time. Tree hopping at its finest – 12 zip lines, 1 of the longest zip lines in Africa and 1 of the highest zip lines in Africa (again, we’re having a lot of firsts here haha). Alicia’s fear of heights has flied out the window! The guides were fun, experienced and hilarious – their energy was great. The canopy tour lasted about 2.5 hours with snacks, drinks and lunch included with an option to take home a video and photo set at the end. For all you Canadians, when was the last time you went on an all inclusive excursion? … We don’t get that privilege in Ontario (imagine having your Canada’s Wonderland pass all inclusive… Haha, JOKES). Check out our Facebook photos and there is lots more information in the captions about the Drakensberg Canopy Tours!

We hit the mountain again today…. let’s just say today wasn’t as successful as yesterday’s 5 hour hike. We planned for a 3.5 hour hike up the mountain and ended up taking far too many water breaks from the natural spring run offs (unbelievable) and ran into some horses while we were at it. Running free in the wild and friendly as can be. Edmund clearly knows exactly where to send his backpackers from Inkosana Lodge .

I know we can’t say this enough but we are really going to miss all this homemade soup and bread! After long and eventful days we’ve looked forward to the dinners at Inkosana Lodge every day. Not to mention his 3 adorable doggies running around greeting everyone they see and eagerly awaiting to jump in the pick up truck to take us to our next destination!

That’s all for now folks, another great day in the Drakensberg District and getting ready to take on Durban!

Don’t forget to send us any comments, suggestions, dares or questions you might have. We’d love to give some shout outs along the way!
