Well I am sitting in the airport in Belgium blogging my latest and last blog from Europe. It was a short but sweet adventure.

I have eaten too much cheese, too much chocolate and faaaar too much bread. Food is so much better in Europe.

Amsterdam

…was quite like I had expected – a beautiful city but a little too chaotic for me. Between the dozens of magic mushroom shops and the prostitutes 65 and above … I’m thinking this place might be more geared for a crazy teen and his boyfriends. Though going to Amsterdam with Paul was a great option – I had my security blanket right by my side!

Before stopping for a night in Amsterdam we made a short lunch break in…

Eindhoven, Holland

Eindhoven is where my ancestors are from on my moms side of the family. It was nice to visit the small yet beautiful city to get a better understanding as to what life might have been like for my ancestors.

While in Amsterdam we went out for too much food, a gorgeous canal cruise and visited the sex museum for a good laugh. Lets just say I am a little more naive than I may have thought – completely sheltered from these crazy lives.

In the same weekend, Paul and I spent some time in…

Dusseldorf, Germany

…visiting his parents and hometown friends. The town was more new than the typical old towns in Germany. Everyone drank a lot of beer yet someone they all managed to look so good. Europeans are much more fashionable than us Canadians – yet I think we rock our roots sweats pretty well! It still boggles my mind how all these Germans stay so skinny. I feel like I’ve gained 15 pounds in 15 days… I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be true. The Rhine river is along side Dusseldorf and we were able to get a Birdseye view from the top of the tower. We tried out a techno party on the lake, had a few incredible dinners with his family and went on a city tour on his parents bicycles. I haven’t been on a bike since I was probably 10 so it wasn’t the most relaxing ride I have been on. All-in-all, it was an honour to meet his family, they are all so sweet and welcoming.

Within the week we visited…

Basel, Switzerland

…for some dinner (Swiss cheese, Swiss chocolate and a loaf of bread). We sat along the river edge and went on a small walk through the city of Basel. Switzerland was nice yet we didn’t see much because we ended up eating too much to be able to enjoy the city walk.

Strasbourg, France

…was beautiful. The small cobble stone streets and rows upon rows of cafes were amazing. We spent most of our day strolling through the town of Strasbourg trying to find something to eat for lunch. Most food was fairly expensive in comparison to Freiburg, Germany.

I was lucky to be able to have Paul as my own personal tour guide and it was fun to be able to experience these new countries for me with him. An A+ tour guide I would say. 😉

A few more meals in Freiburg, a party in the middle of the forest, meeting up with an Au Pair family, spending some quality time together and it was already time to go.

The whole point to my blog was to write about the year I turned 21 and the adventures I would embark on. I might be continuing into the age of 22. I haven’t posted about my current plans yet but now seems as good a time as any.

Instead of going back to work for the year in Toronto, I have met the most perfect Au Pair family in Mullheim, Germany close to Freiburg. The two girls are adorable and warmed up to me so quickly. How could I say no?! I would also love to learn the German language while I am there for the year so I will be visiting a language school twice a week in Freiburg. This contract will start in October 2013.

So… Back home for a few months to re-fill my bank account and then Germany bound again! 🙂
