We’ve already been to quite a few Christmas Markets to date and I think it’s fair enough that we can start judging which ones were our favorite and which christmas decorations were the best.

Here were our 5 favorite Christmas decorations from the German Christmas Markets:

1. Lebkuchen/Gingerbread:

This is a German tradition which can be used throughout the year and is often saved for holidays and festivities to come. During the Christmas holidays, many of these gingerbread hearts are decorated with festive Christmas colors, quotes and decorations!

2. Tinfoil Stars:

Simple, yet elegant. I could even cut out cardboard stars and fold some tinfoil around it if I was really looking for a quick and simple project. There are so many wonderful creations that can easily be replicated back home in Canada.

3. Traditional German Stars:

I just got my first German star for Christmas this year from my beautiful Freiburg friends. Some of them look good up all year round, but many of them are PERFECT for the winter holidays.

4. Fibre Stars:

This ones a harder one to make but my mom has already bought a couple to take home. I have to try and confirm what they’re actually made out of, but these ones here are made with a bendable wire and covered in a red wool fiber for the Christmas tree or to hang in your window!

5. Organic Tinsel:

I’m not a huge fan of tinsel, but this garland is beautiful and so easy to make at home! Get some string, pine cones and wooden cutouts and you’re good to go! Such a great Christmas idea, and an even better Christmas gift!
