Reading week? What reading week? I’m in Thailand.
It might be a pretty sweet deal to spend 4 months of my last semester in University studying in Thailand, but the benefits of being an Ontario student offer reading week, family day, long weekends… etc.
So, instead… I took a short vacation (skipping class) to paradise city with my handsome man. Okay, I guess I didn’t realize that Thailand still has Song Kran which is a 7 day new year celebration… but why not have an extra week off? right?
Because I might just have the best boyfriend in the entire world… he came to visit me for a couple weeks in Thailand.
Starting our vacation off in Bangkok, we visited a rooftop bar 61 floors on the top of a hotel. We also made a couple pit stops to some of the largest malls in Bangkok – not that shopping was on the top of our list.
After a short time in Bangkok we departed via flight to Krabi, Thailand. Why? Well.. between the debate of Koh Samui or Krabi.. I got my way 😉 I have heard many stories about Koh Samui being a pool of tourists… not exactly what I enjoy on vacation – I’m impatient, grumpy and bothered when it comes to crowded tourist streets on a regular. So, we were sold by the numerous comments about Krabi having the most beautiful sunsets and boy, were they right.
Paul decided renting a motor scooter for a couple days while we spent some time in Ao Nang, Krabi was a good idea. I pushed against the idea but we ended up having some great adventures on the motor scooter – which was only 200 Baht to rent for 24 hours ($6.50). We visited Krabi Town, mangroves, markets, beaches, and just had some beautiful scenic drives along the way.
Thai Massages after a long day of beaching it – 300 baht ($10.00)
Southern Thailand is known for it’s, beaches so a lot of our days consisted of water activities. We did a 4 islands tour the first full day – visiting Chicken Island and a few others. We spent a day on Ao Nang Beach with the wild monkeys and took a long tail boat to Railay Beach another day. Not too badly burnt and very well fed – the entire week was a dream come true.
Once we got close to Paul’s departure we headed back to Bangkok for one last night of fun before his 5:00 am taxi cab to the airport. So, we went to Khao San Road — just Google it if you haven’t been before – tourist central (yes, I know I said I hate tourist-crazed areas but this is a must do/must see type of thing). What started off as a plate of pad thai, 1 Sang Som bucket and a large Chang beer turned into hours of bars, hours of drinking and hours of constant laughing/singing/commotion. Though we may have woke up at 5:00 am still in a drunken state.. and I may or may not have puked in a cab.. it was an amazing way to end the trip.
Some of the best days of my life were spent with this boy traveling through Bangkok, Ao Nang, Koh Lanta, Krabi. I have never met anyone quite like him and I cannot wait for our next adventures together!
