After three days in Berlin and a few too many glasses of wine the night before, the Pfefferbett Hostel was quite the accommodation to arrive at! When you’re traveling the world on a low-budget, expecting a sub par accommodation just to give you a few hours of shut-eye, most hotels and hostels will do.

Whether you expect it or not, the Pfefferbett Hostel will be quite a refreshing experience for you in comparison to other hostels across Europe. Rated one of the best hostels in Berlin, the Pfefferbett will ensure that you have the best possible stay while you’re in Berlin.

The Pfefferbett Hostel Review

Staff

Upon arrival I was greeted by a wonderful staff member. She provided me with more information than I knew what to do with but got me more pumped for Berlin than I already was! First impressions for me mean everything. I always hope for a wonderful greeting despite the accommodations, cleanliness, etc. and boy did I get one! I was thankful I had met this one particular staff member first as there were a few who weren’t the friendliness afterwards. A full night out at the fan mile, I was awoken twice by cleaning staff, one who didn’t knock at all and the other one who just kept speaking German to me until she grabbed the “do not disturb” sign and placed it on the front of the door to avoid anymore interruption that day.

Room

Clean, organized and modern – the best possible combination when it comes to hostels. I was pleasantly surprised to see that we received our own room! I came to the hostel with the expectation to be sharing the room with 3 other backpackers and instead I had my own room, with a separate washroom, wonderfully clean sheets and TV with satellite. The white walls, white sheets and black decor though not original, were quite simplistic and was a nice place to sleep!

Food and Drinks

For 6.50 Euros you can get a buffet breakfast to start the morning off right. I would say it is 100% worth it! Not only is it convenient to wake up and simply go downstairs for a fully prepared breakfast but it was delicious. There was an array of fresh-cut fruit, cold cuts, cheeses, scrambled eggs and sandwich spreads. DELICIOUS! 😀

Common Area

My favorite part of backpacking and hostels is the incredible opportunities to meet friends from across the world. Though I did not have much time to sit and relax in the common area, the layout was great including a pool table, computers, tables, chairs, desks, pillows, couches and a projecting tv screen! LOVED IT!

Location

The one thing that may be difficult in Berlin is that the city literally never sleeps. The Pfefferbett Hostel really lives up to their saying “Right in the middle. Out of the ordinary,” it is in the heart of a very trendy and upscale town, the subway is literally right outside the door and it is a unordinary oasis compared to other parts of Berlin. Though Berlin is one of my all time favorite German cities, ‘never sleeping’ is not an option for me. Location, location, location!
