Though many of us seek out to find the world’s most eco-friendly tourist destinations, it’s not hard to find them on your own. You could be in the world’s most unsustainable suburb and still be able to find the light at the end of the tunnel, all you need to do is try.

Educate yourself, team up with the right people and join forces to transform lives and change our world as eco travellers.

There are a few destinations time and time again, voted the world’s number one best destinations for ecotourism. These destinations would be a great place to start educating yourself on becoming the best eco traveller.

Norway

If you haven’t heard about the fjords yet, there some research needing to be done. Fjord Norway has been selected to be one of the sustainable pilot destinations by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council and is showing no sign of backing down when it comes to creating new and exciting ways to explore the country responsibly.

Costa Rica

Having the title of one of the world’s most eco friendly tourist destinations certainly doesn’t come lightly for the tourism board of Costa Rica. With a lot of hard work and rebranding, Costa Rica has been able to feature some of their remarkable highlights such as their national parks and reserves which make up almost 30% of the land, or the fact that 95% of their energy consumption is from renewable resources that come from local sources.

Kenya

Kenya’s rich ecotourism history isn’t new. For generations tourism in Kenya has thrived off of the local people and the pristine environment. Thanks to dedicated professionals and those passionate about ecotourism, Kenya has still kept its title of being one of the world’s most eco friendly destinations.

Brazil

Home to the globe’s largest wetlands, Brazil was under serious pressure as the grazing lands expanded. They have now offered full environmental protection for the land and offer various eco lodges as accommodation so that we as travellers can explore while educating ourselves on current issues and trends.

Canada

Deep in the woods of Canada is one of the largest transborder national parks in the world where you can canoe through more than 200 kilometres of natural landscape while you set your sights on Canadian grizzly bears and other wild species whose only known home is Canada.
