Welcome to a place where sustainability is all in the way the customer service is conducted. It was a very unique experience arriving at the beautiful and eloquent Granville Hotel in Waterford. We were greeted promptly with a smile and provided a neat tour of the hotels facilities. This included an incredible description of the detail and passion that they’ve put into their whiskey wall.

When we had sat down and asked the staff what makes their hotel sustainable, it was obvious that it was pure and simple – providing exceptional customer service which makes each and every person who walks in the door feel special.

Hotel Rooms

The reason I loved Granville Hotel so much was because it was individual and unique. Each room, every hallway and every corner was designed in a way that the history of the hotel would be remembered while also allowing guests to feel right at home. The triple room we were accommodated with had a safe, an office space, a small book shelf and two enclosed washrooms.

Beds: Soft and cozy just as they would be back at home. You’ve got enough pillows and sheets in the cupboard to throw a slumber party in this room. Absolutely stunning.

Bathroom: Since there were 3 of us, it was such a luxury to have two enclosed washrooms in the room. 2 were able to shower at once and we had ample space to get ready in the morning, moving onward in our adventure.

Drinks: We immediately sat down for a few samples of their local beers and ended up staying for quite a while. Their selection of wines, whiskeys, gins, rums, vodkas…. the list goes on.. is impressive. Very impressive. They’ve put detail into every product and provide you with a little history of every drink.

Note: Guinness is absolutely delicious in Ireland!

Food: Though it is nice to see that their main focus of sustainability is through the customer service of the hotel, it was phenomenal to learn all about the food and drink they use in their hotel and how much of it links back to the local communities. Our breakfast was to die for, every piece of food had a story. I ordered their eggs Benedict which came with Blaa [a white bread roll made fresh and soft known to be made only within the Waterford and Kilkenny areas].

Atmosphere: Warm, quaint and cozy – those three words are the definition of the Granville Hotel. We were again greeted promptly with smiling faces, I even got the opportunity to snap a photo of a few staff before getting some breakfast in!

Location

Waterford is a great spot to stop in the middle of a road trip like we had done. It’s a big enough town that you can pick up whatever you need including groceries and gas, but it’s also a stunning historical area which has got to be checked out along the way.

Here are a couple things you can’t miss out on:

Walking the Viking Triangle

This shouldn’t be hard if you’re in Waterford exploring for the day as the triangle is part of their main historical and downtown hub. Right along the river bank and leading you up toward the city centre is the Viking Triangle.

Visit Waterford Crystal

We didn’t have enough time to explore the Waterford Crystal factory, but it’s something that we certainly should have done. You’ll hear about it all over Ireland (possibly the world) and regret not checking it out if you pass by. The Waterford Crystal factory is where they founded this precise cut of crystal.

Waterford

Roam the Streets

There is quite a bit to see in this riverside town and it’s certainly worth a stroll down the pedestrian passages. There are many shops and local restaurants to explore. If you do so, let me know what your favourite spot was!
