There is a simple reason as to why I’m sharing this #HealthySeas campaign information with you on Give for Granted. I spent 4 months living in Thailand while studying tourism and environment, and I was shocked at how badly we as tourists ruined the coral reefs. This is our chance to fix the mistakes we’ve made.

I had the opportunity to explore various coral reefs along the coast of Thailand and while this might not come as a surprise, Koh Phangan and Phuket were some of the most destroyed coral reefs I’ve ever seen. There were other more off the beaten track destinations in Thailand that were remarkable and still boast in the #HealthySeas.

So whether you were one of the people who fed the fish bread sticks and watermelon cores or have known all along the importance of preserving our coral reefs, here’s your chance to make a difference.

Here’s your chance to encourage #HealthySeas

Donate to #HealthySeas

INSTASAVE Oceans’ has launch a campaign in collaboration with CARIBSAVE in order to restore coral reefs, support coastal communities and conserve fish. They’ve recently turned to Twitter in search for funding and have now launched their new “Tweet to Donate” fundraiser online.

You can donate £5 by sending a tweet that mentions the following terms: @instasaveoceans #HealthySeas. How? Easy! Twitter has now linked up with PayPal and has allowed members to connect their banking details to their Twitter accounts in order to help make a difference in the way we make donations.

Haven’t convinced you yet?

Take a look at these ugly facts from a recent WWF Report:

  • Our oceans feed more than one billion people
  • Approx. 90% of the ocean’s fish are being overfished
  • Coral reefs take up less than 0.1% of the ocean’s floor but provide homes to around 25% of all marine life
  • 800 million people across the globe depend on coral reef ecosystems
