I was recently nominated to carry on tradition with the sisterhood of the world bloggers. I will now answer ten questions that were provided by Lindsay Davies, a fellow Canadian travel blogger who is also a food enthusiast and graphic designer. Lindsay’s blog is at I’ve Been Bit:: A Travel Blog if you’d like to go check it out!

Sisterhood Questionare

1. What was the first adventure that got you hooked on travelling?
South Africa. I had won a trip after multiple hours browsing the web applying for every contest I possibly could and then stumbled upon a contest requested an essay submission as to why you should be the next Hostelling International South Africa blogger. I had never blogged in my life but I had the passion to work as hard as I needed to in order to become this so called ‘blogger.’

I won the contest and had the adventure of a lifetime on my first addictive trip and my first blogging adventure.

2. What was an activity or trip you did that really pushed your limits?
I think I’ll have to say Nepal. I never planned Nepal, I never even had imagined visiting Nepal. Through an unexpected turn of events and a mandatory trip in order to obtain my Indian visa… I was in Nepal, alone. I had taken solo trips but none as extensive as this.

I’m brave… but I’d always preferred weekend solo trips. By the end of the weekend I was ready for some company. Nepal was a full two week trip alone, in a country I had never researched and then I was headed onward to India for another week of solo adventures.

3. Do you prefer travelling with a partner/group or solo? Why?
I prefer travelling with a group who I’m just getting to meet. Blog trips are super ideal as I usually never know what to expect. It is exciting and at the same time you feel a little alone since no one there knows your stories. It also allows me to venture off on my own every now and again without friends getting mad.

4. What’s a trip or activity that you’re currently dying to do?
It is a dream of mine to visit my sister up in the Arctic of Canada in a small community called Sachs Harbour in the NorthWest Territories. Close seconds are also visiting Iceland and the Antarctic!

5. When you’re constantly on the move, what’s one thing you miss about staying in one spot?
Having my puppy to cuddle at night.

6. Name one thing people should experience from your hometown.
Absolutely nothing in my hometown, but a few hours outside of the city it’s key to visit the cottage country of Canada. True. Canadian. Life.

7. What’s one thing you try to do/experience/purchase in every country you visit?
I have an odd obsession for silver rings. I hate taking jewellery off when I shower so silver is best, it is also a neat way to bring back a small souvenir in memory of the trip – I never buy souvenirs otherwise.
I also am on a mission to get a small tattoo in every continent!

8. What’s your favourite mode of transportation and why?
TRAIN! Because there is usually ample space to put your feet and your luggage. There is also often a restaurant cart and tables to work on your computer or play a game. There aren’t always plugs on the bus… but trains have always made me happy!

The best part of train rides is the amazing scenery you get to see that none of the cars are able to.

9. Do you have any advice for ladies just starting to travel?
Just do what you love. Don’t travel to try and impress people, don’t travel places just because others told you that you should go. Travel because you want to travel, not because everyone else today is travelling. Of course… make damn sure you’re travelling sustainably.

10. Share an embarrassing travel story.
Okay, here is one I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned online before. I was in India on a bus ride between Coorg and Bangalore. It was an overnight bus ride and the driver was an absolute maniac. We weren’t due for a washroom break for another 6 hours at least and my bladder was in so much pain I started to cry. — though this might be funny story for you, I am still traumatized by this experience and would never wish it on anyone — Since the driver was not going to pull over for anything or anyone, I was forced to pee in a coke bottle. In the middle of the night, on a bumpy bus ride… I clearly missed the bottle by a long shot. I got back to my accommodation soaking wet and exhausted. I also managed to get my iPod tangled up in the mess and no longer have a working iPod.
