Well, a suite it was! For those if you who haven’t watched the room tour I posted on YouTube, feel free to catch a peak now before reading my review in Nepal!
Upon arriving I was greeted by friendly staff who will insist on carrying your bags right to your room. The minute I hear about staff wanting to carry your bags to the room, I usually decline – especially in this circumstance when I knew for a fact I had no Nepali Rupees on me yet. To my surprise, they carried my bags to the room while I was guided through the room on a little tour. There was no expectations for tips and it was an easy and comfortable setting when checking in.
Size
For once in my life, I’m going to say that this room was big, big enough to make me feel lonely that I’ve been travelling through Nepal solo for the last couple weeks. That is not to say it was a wonderful size, it most definitely was… If I had a couple of friends or family to share it with. I had an entrance hallway, a living room, a separate bedroom and an en suite bathroom. A wonderful space especially for a long-term stay. For me, it was a little too big, but if you like your space, or are planning to visit Nepal with a friend or two, this is the perfect space!
Bed
For those of you who have read my blog posts before on hotel reviews, you will know that I am a rather picky person when it comes to beds. Some people this I’m a little odd for enjoying a big, fluffy, covered in pillows sleeping arrangement, but I think it’s rather perfect! 😀 The bed offered to me in the Garden Suite at the Shaligram Hotel was perfect! The sheets were super soft, the bed was a queen so of course I sprawled. The best part (for me) was the extra 2 pillows stored in the cupboard in addition to the 2 already on the bed! Yay!
Amenities
There were definitely more amenities than I could ask for. Shoe Shiner, not that I used it. An iron, that I should have used but didn’t. Shampoos, soaps, fresh water and fresh fruit upon arrival. Every morning I woke up I had a new morning newspaper on my doorstep – I haven’t read one, but I’ve been stocking them in my luggage until I have the time to sit down and relax – they’re all in English! 🙂
Bathing Facilities
The en suite washroom served as a relatively good night-light for me as I am sometimes a little afraid of the dark – yes, I am aware I’m turning 23 next month… Haha. It was a basic bathroom, so don’t expect anything too luxurious. The water was perfect temperature the first day I showered, the next few days it seemed to be rather cold. If you’re picky, you may have an issue with this, but given the fact that I was covered in sweat and dirt from my days activities, a cold shower wasn’t so bad after all.
Common Area
I think I spent most of my time while checked into this room hanging out in the common area. I had my own private tv room which I definitely used to my full potential! If you’re a traveler like myself, the amount of English channels on the Nepali tv’s amazed me. Coming from Germany and watching a mere 2 tv channels provided in English, this was such a treat!
Overall, I most definitely wouldn’t recommend this room to anyone traveling solo, but it is a perfect living space for smaller families who are looking for a larger space to spend some time in.
If you’re looking for accommodation for one or two people and aren’t so picky about what amenities are included in the room, move on over to my other blog post: The JUDDHA-VILLA in Patan, Nepal.
