So.. let’s get right into this, shall we? Here is Bangalore for you!
The Weather is Better in Bangalore
Don’t ask me how or why but the weather in Bangalore was a relief coming from Delhi and Agra. With a short stopover in Delhi en route to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, I was ready to jet set out of India after realizing how unbearably hot it is. To my surprise the weather in Bangalore was much more refreshing than the crowded, hot and sticky streets of Delhi.
Leave UR Mark has Incredible Accommodations in Bangalore
After experiencing every extreme from concrete walls and a cot on the floor to luxury living in France, I think it’s safe to say I have enough past experience to be able to compare the Leave UR Mark accommodations to others abroad. Honestly, I didn’t expect much coming to India. I am well aware that living standards are much different – I’ve pee’d in a hole, I’ve used a hose to wipe myself, I’ve swept the dust off the floor with a brush half my size made of twigs… I’ve done a whole lot of things that aren’t ‘custom’ in North America. To my lovely surprise, the Leave UR Mark residence offers a wonderful luxurious western feel with all the local you may desire right outside the doors.
Commercial Street and Mantri Mall have Everything
Though I am here as a volunteer working with a company called Reaching Hand, that is not to say that I haven’t done my fair share of souvenir shopping. Commercial Street is infamous for their shops upon shops upon shops of local handicrafts, saris and travel souvenirs. Affordable and a great way to spend the day souvenir shopping, Commercial Street is a place you must visit at least once while in South India. Mantri Mall though not very expressive of Indian culture, is a very convenient and westernized mall with international foods and clothing brands on every floor.
There are Many Wonderful Destinations to Visit on the Weekends
Bangalore is a big city with a lot of traffic and a lot of large commercial buildings. Though it’s not the ideal place to raise a family (in my opinion), it is the perfect hub to work, shop and play. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway there are so many wonderful and CHEAP options to exploring the area. If you’re looking to do the same, definitely check out –> Madikeri, Ooty, Mysore and Hampi. These are all smaller cities and villages which the interns at Leave UR Mark have all fell in love with.
Convinced yet? India was never a place I thought of visiting but when the opportunity arose, I realized it is a very out of the ordinary place to travel that would make for a great blogging opportunity. Photography isn’t something I need to work at here, there are remarkable shots around every corner. Volunteering isn’t something I needed to second think either, India isn’t a first world country and they do require many volunteers. So what better place to spend your time and efforts in than Bangalore??
