I think it’s about time that I introduce you to the world of glamping as I gear up for an adventure of a lifetime exploring all that glamping has to offer while venturing the country sides of Ireland.

First things first, what is glamping?

Well, according to the Oxford Dictionary, “glamping is a form of camping involving accommodation and facilities more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping.”

In my mind, glamping is one of those things we all put on our bucket list because:

  1. It’s unique
  2. It’s adventurous
  3. It’s sustainable

It is an incredible adventure in the wilderness where you can be one with the nature and explore all there is to see as if you were camping own with you old shabby tent in the back of the car. It is an opportunity to travel in luxury while still being able to explore the nature.

Even if I was rich, I could never imagine myself travelling across the globe staying in 5 star city resorts the way some rich folks do. I would still embody my love of nature and would still love to be close with the community and local people. Glamping is just that!

It’s Unique

Well of course it’s unique! Have you been glamping yet?… Now is the time to stop you, if you actually have been glamping before I urge you to leave a message in the comment section below letting myself and all the other readers in on your wonderful experiences!

Glamping

Glamping is quite popularly seen on Pinterest, it is those resorts and eco lodges that you’re pinning onto all your boards hoping that you could live life as a minimalist in one of these incredible things.

Accommodations can vary between yurts, eco lodges, tents, tree houses, trailers, pods, the list goes on!

It’s Adventurous

As I was reading through a post from Green Global Travel, I realized that they had done a little bit of digging to understand that in order to call your accommodations glamp sites you need to be able to provide these three things:

  1. Unique Structure
  2. Access to the Outdoors
  3. Luxury Comfort

This means all the adventure of camping without the awful mosquitos finding their way into your tent. It means feeling the soft plush sheets beneath your bum while you fall asleep instead of the pebbles and stones beneath your sleeping bag.

Who said adventure had to be painful anyway?!

It’s Sustainable

I was a little hesitant to include this pointer in this blog post as I know it may easily be argued (especially in a few years time when jacuzzis and televisions aren’t all they offer). However, currently many glamping sites offer sustainable eco experiences while still providing luxury comfort.

You’ll find sites that are made from recycled wood, repurposed wine barrels, and even old shipping containers.

Due to the location of many lamp sites today, running a sustainable and eco friendly business is actually often easier than the alternative. Running solar powered light and energy through the camp and offering fresh produce and local foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner… these are things that aren’t just sustainable, but perhaps easier than searching for and building power outlets or ordering bulk food internationally into the middle of the forest.

Up Next…

It’s been a bucket list dream of mine for quite a while now and I’ve finally found the time to create a campaign out of this mission.

From September 1, 2015 until September 8, 2015 myself and a couple friends will be renting a car and exploring all the South of Ireland has to offer while stopping along the way for a few glamping adventures!
